18 Months - Pre K

Enrichment & Special Experiences

From local musician visits to trips to the zoo, Playhouse Preschool brings learning to life through engaging experiences for our little ones.

The Great Outdoors

Fresh air and muddy boots are part of our curriculum too. At Playhouse, getting outside isn't just a break from the classroom. It's where some of the best learning happens. We believe deeply in encouraging curiosity and a love of the natural world, and the outdoors is our greatest classroom. Worm hunting, digging, building sand pies for friends, feeling the crunch of leaves underfoot... the sensory experiences outside are endless, and imagination always leads the way.

Projects with Purpose

We love a theme at Playhouse! From Science Week to Exercise Week and our most loved of all, letter weeks, there is always something connecting the dots throughout our days. During letter weeks, we center our whole world around one letter of the alphabet, weaving it through everything we do. This approach, called thematic or letter-of-the-week learning, helps children make meaningful connections between language, concepts, and hands-on experience all at once. "P week" might find us kneading pink and purple playdough, while "G week" could have us out in the garden learning how seeds become food. Our art centers, show and tell, science corners, and movement activities all follow along. Every project is intentionally designed for our 18-month through Pre-K learners, and most importantly, a whole lot of fun.

Writing Centers

Long before a child can write their full name, they are already on their way. Our writing centers invite littles to explore letters and language through tracing, drawing, and mark-making in a low-pressure, playful space. Watching a child carefully trace their own name for the first time is one of those small, magical classroom moments that never gets old. Writing centers build fine motor skills, letter recognition, and early literacy confidence, all while feeling like play, because at this age, it should.

Local Field Trips

Throughout the year, we venture beyond our walls and into the community! Our field trips follow the seasons and give children a chance to connect what they are learning in the classroom with the world around them. Some of our favorites include the local zoo and a fall visit to the pumpkin patch, pure magic every single time. Families are always welcome to get involved, and we love when parents join us as chaperones. It's a wonderful way to bond with your child's class and be part of the adventure.

Music Time

Every week, we get to welcome the one, the only... Mr. Dave and his guitar! Music time is a beloved part of the Playhouse rhythm, and Mr. Dave has creates the space to get our little ones moving, singing, and feeling right at home. There is something about live music that makes kids light up in a way nothing else quite does. Nothing beats getting to dance and sing our hearts out together.

Meeting Our Local Heroes

Sure, Spiderman is pretty cool, but have you ever gotten to sit inside a real fire truck? We think some of the greatest heroes are the ones right here in our community, showing up every day to keep things safe, clean, and running smoothly. Throughout the year, we welcome special visits from our local firefighters, police officers, and even the team behind our neighborhood trash truck (yes, really, and it is always a crowd favorite). These visits spark big conversations, new vocabulary, and a healthy appreciation for the people who take care of our world.

Holiday Performance & Christmas Party

Every year, we send our littles into winter break with a little extra magic. Our holiday celebration includes a very special visit and storytime with Santa himself, followed by a performance that our kiddos have been working hard to perfect. A song complete with all the movements, performed live just for their favorite people. Grab your tissues, because this one is a memory-maker. It is one of our most cherished Playhouse traditions, and we cannot wait to share it with your family.

Pre-K Graduation

Our oldest Playhouse friends get the sendoff they deserve. Each June, decked out in their caps and gowns, our Pre-K class gathers under the trees for a graduation ceremony full of heart. Directors and teachers share words of pride, and the kids each get to tell us what they want to be when they grow up, which as you can imagine is absolutely the highlight. A talented balloon artist and face painter add to the festivities, and the whole afternoon wraps up with a big feast for all Playhouse families. It is a day everyone looks forward to all year long.

School Is in Session, All Year Long!

At Playhouse, we believe consistency and routine are a gift to little learners, so we keep the doors open through every season! We do observe the following breaks throughout the year, aligned with holidays most families naturally have off:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day · Presidents' Day · Juneteenth · Summer Break (June 29 – July 3) · Labor Day · Veterans Day · Thanksgiving (early dismissal Nov. 25, closed Nov. 26–27) · Winter Break (Dec. 21 – Jan. 2)

Outside of those, your littles have a warm, welcoming place to learn, grow, and play every single week.
